Review: Shubha Vilas recounts 11 tales from the Hindu religious scriptures and does it in an easy, layman’s language that everybody can understand.
The stories seem to have been selected very carefully. Except for Ashtavark’s tale which is well known, I found all other stories new and unheard of before. There are some gems here that contain little snippets of wisdom which every reader will find helpful. This modern retelling of the ancient scriptures has been done very well by Shubha Vilas and will generate an interest in such stories among the younger generation of readers.
The book highlights the gist of the tale in the form of small snippets on each page. It really helps and will give you a plethora of quotes that can be implemented in daily life.
The tales recount and discuss many aspects such as jealousy, selfishness, devotion and contain age old wisdom that never goes out of flavour. Mystical Tales for a Magical Life can be a good starting point for any reader who is interested in reading the religious scriptures. It introduces these stories in an easy format. Perhaps, this can be developed into a regular feature with more books in a series format.
The only downside of the book is the absence of illustrations. One illustration per chapter would have added to the mystical beauty of this book.
